Day Four Report

OK so it’s a wrap for day four, I think it was day four, I have added several posts and worked more off site than on the site, the days stats started with a boom …. but suddenly dies in the ass – no real reason why …. it’s just a new site technically so 200 visitors a day is still pretty good.

The traffic from Google died in the ass, most of the traffic was from social sites, so taking that into account I decided to work off site and gather some links from external sites – mainly wordpress.com – I have a older hosted blog that I tend to use …. hopefully by being active there and adding a link to each post to one of my posts will give me some more juice and a few visitors – the impact from that wont be showing for a few more days though.

The main gain today was the blog got listed in Google Blog search results and as this site gathers momentum and age – the posts will be indexed in the blog search and in the search engine a little quicker.

I added a few more plugins today :

Google XML Sitemaps
MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer
WP to Twitter

~ Google XML Sitemaps will generate sitemaps on the fly and notify search engines of new posts.
~ Ping Optimizer will limit the amount of pings to the related sites – so ping spam will be monitored.
~ WP to Twitter will automate each post to my Twitter account – hopefully gaining a little traffic also.

I have also submitted my site to www.feedburner.com and set up the ping service there and interestingly enough – as soon as I did this I found my blogs in Google’s Blog search results. I also submitted my sitemap to Google Webmaster tools.

The number of pages indexed didn’t really increase …. and fluctuates between 120 and 150 as expected though as old pages fall from Google.

Day Three Report

Today was a little all over the shop, I installed a few plugins and worked on two other sites – that I wont expose here, the stats went down due to a server issue – so that was a pain in the ass, hence why I installed a new plugin for Google Analytics and that seems promising. Google traffic went down hill – but I got lucky with a Digg and that supplied about 60 visitors.

Page Views Climbed but visitors were down – according to the stats that went down though.

The number of indexed pages in Google continues to fluctuate, but that was expected as this domain had pages already listed in Google – as the old pages return 404 errors – Google will drop them. To keep the few pages that had PR I installed a plugin. – Google shows 124 indexed pages now.

Hopefully Tomorrow goes a bit smoother and I have some decent stats to show.

The Plug Ins

I didn’t include this on the initial set up process because these will vary, I mean for each individual and I may also change my mind from time to time – and sometimes the plugins get out dated, crash servers or are improved.

I suggest a RSS in Posts Plugin and there are several of these – again I may change from time to time :

The Cross RSS Feed Plugin – it’s OK but to view results or RSS feed you must click the RSS feeds link and I don’t want that function – I need feeds to appear in post without any other actions.

FirstRSS Feed Plugin – this was the only RSS feed in post Plugin that I could find, my last host claimed that this was server intensive.

FirstRSS is a simple RSS aggregator for posts. Insert “[rsspara:URL]” or “[rsslist:URL]” into the post for paragraph or list format respectively. Replace “URL” with the URL of the RSS feed starting with “http://”.

You will need to open the the FirstRSS php file and remove line 108 & 109 from the file :

This will remove the link to the creators site – he suggests to do this.

FirstRSS Plugin

This is the firstRSS plugin in action, I think I will be using this one again – though my last host said it was server intensive – I will be testing this theory out. The RSS feed is from DigitalPoint forums. FirstRSS ERROR: "http://forums.digitalpoint.com/external.php?type=RSS2" NOT FOUND! No related posts. No related posts.
